It's A Bloody Good Day, Is What It Is

True that.

I finished my personal statement - 3425 characters (585 words)!

I just had my Karate graduation. Blue belt FTW!

I have a box of mixed chocolates, courtesy of my mother.

My university application is going along rather fantastically.

The story I'm trying to write is helping me out now by writing itself.

So fecking hell. Life is good.

Faux Fight Club with Updates

I have a shiny medal! First place in a kata competition, baby! w00t!

Then I hung around and watched some black belts punch each other in the face. Fun! T'was like having ringside seats to my own, personal fight club. Well, not really... just ringside seats to an ordinary fight. Mother felt queasy afterwards though... not too surprising, considering she just saw a guy get elbowed in the eye.

But anyways...

Oh, My Poor Heart update:

This country finally pulled one of the many sticks out of its arse and imported RED BULL!! YEAH!!! I've got a 4-pack sitting in the fridge - CHILLING!

Shuttle to Geekdom update:

The enemies have been defeated, and the Shuttle is safely parked in the motherland.

However, the pilot is currently sorting through some matters of the heart, and is thus incapable of traveling any further at present.

So now we wait.

I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself.

Nutter in The Woods

Last night, I was at a party, and it very nearly turned into a stereotypical horror movie. 'Twas fun though.

Here's what happened;

We were in a cottage in the middle of the woods, next to some old, unused mines. The festivities started at around 8pm, but the real heart-pounding fun did not start until around the stroke of midnight.

Around 11 pm, the guys thought it would be fun to go and explore the old mines. After a while, the girls started getting curious as to where the guys had gone and why they hadn't come back yet. The males did eventually return, but they kept going back outside. Due to incessant queries by the females (you do not hide shite from females), the guys then admitted the reason for their vigil outside; apparently they had seen an unknown man walk past them, past the mines and towards the woods. This got them a bit curious, as there was nothing there - no reason for anyone to go there so late in the night. But they didn't think much of it.

And then they heard a scream.

While all that was happening, myself and two friends were chatting by a window, oblivious to whatever was happening outside. Then we saw something hit the windowpane. Pretty soon it became clear that *someone was knocking on the glass and scraping a glove against it*. Our initial thought was that it was just someone we knew who was messing around with us, but it quickly became obvious that we were mistaken. All the girls were inside, and all the guys were congregated outside the entrance - situated at the other end of the cabin.

By this time it was clear to everyone that some nutter was messing around with us. Midnight saw everyone gathered around the door, looking at each other with an expression of apprehension. I'm pretty sure the word on everyone's mind at that moment was a four-letter word starting with 'F' and ending with 'uck'.

Anyway, we weren't really sure what to do yet, so we all just stood there, waiting. Then I looked out a window from across the room and saw a face. I thought, 'Reflection?', but then soon realized that it was not. Lying perpendicular to that window was a long table, so there was no way anyone could've stood there. Then the guys saw something from another window and the tension increased threefold. We locked all the windows and gathered around the now-locked entrance. The birthday girl called her parents to ask if they could stop by and check on us. Pretty much everyone was looking at each other nervously, having seen one too many horror movies in their time.

The guys were impressively quite brave. Once again they decided to stand guard outside and wait until our hostess' parents arrived. So they gave us girls explicit instructions to keep the door locked, then went outside. I then understood why boys usually die first in horror movies - they lack the ability that girls have to get scared and stay inside where it's safe! To show my support though, I gave one of them a fireplace poker.

"Don't stand there unarmed."

Even after the parentals arrived, the nutter kept on throwing stuff at the house - twigs and nuts and whatnot. There really was nothing the guys could do, as it was dark and near zero-visibility in the woods. I, however, made myself pretty useful by lecturing people on how not to die when in a horror movie. "Don't have sex," I told them, "You'll die first." True story.

At around 1am we all decided to call it a night. People went home, and the nutter was never discovered or caught. He's still there, and who knows what he'll be up to next time.

This One Will Make Sense, I Promise

That title is a total lie.

So an excerpt from my diary (now in unintentional hiatus):

September 26, 2008

...Then again at lunch. Shame I didn't win.

I wanted to ____!!! ;_;

So here's the plan: I join Mensa, let it slip that I'm in, THEN ____.

I'm hearing comments from inside my head that it's hilarious/sad that I'd go to great lengths just to _______. Ah well.

I just can't bring myself to clarify that, I'm sorry. If you really want to know, message me, and if I like your face, I'll answer you.

And boo to you, voice inside my head - that thing totally happened!

It *is* a bit hilarious/sad that I went to such lengths to be able to do that thing, but hah! It was most definitely worth it!

But I was thinking of a plan to dye one's whiskers green.

Sweet Break

Here's a nice break from the impending hectic stuff (of doom)...

I got home and went straight to me room. There I saw a huge (well not really, more A4-sized) envelope sitting atop my laptop. A funny feeling started in the pits of my stomach.

It's from Mensa. I knew it.

Whilst rummaging for the letter opener in my bag, a rush of emotions/ a stream of thoughts churned inside my head.

Did I make it?

I shouldn't expect too much.

What if I passed? Maybe I passed?

If I didn't pass, at least give me a high score..

And so I opened the envelope. And lo and behold...

I passed!

The first (front) page informed me that I scored 44 out of 45, and that gave an IQ of 135!

And that is within 1% of the population, and that I was approved for a Mensa membership!!

So yes! I am pleased!

*We Are The Champions plays faintly in the background*

I'll prob be posting scans of the letter later. Hmm... tongue twister.

There is a thin line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

[22:43:26] Lynx says: erm
[22:43:29] Lynx says: okay?
[22:43:31] The_Crazy_Authoress says: why? why would adorable beings possess the ability to kill like that?
[22:43:39] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and baby leopards
[22:43:41] The_Crazy_Authoress says: they're so cute
[22:43:54] The_Crazy_Authoress says: but they can kill too
[22:43:58] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and the platypus!
[22:44:03] The_Crazy_Authoress says: by god, the platypus
[22:44:17] Lynx says: :D
[22:44:18] The_Crazy_Authoress says: it's like Mother Nature had one too many bourbons that day
[22:44:26] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and made something out of the spare parts in the garage
[22:44:34] The_Crazy_Authoress says: "hehe this is made out of spare parts, but it can still kill you!!"
[22:44:54] The_Crazy_Authoress says: pan over to something truly ferocious; the tyrannosaurus rex
[22:44:59] The_Crazy_Authoress says: oh wait? herbivore? got it.
[22:45:15] The_Crazy_Authoress says: it's just so messed up
[22:45:24] The_Crazy_Authoress says: /end random rant
[22:46:24] Lynx says: You amuse me.
[22:47:45] The_Crazy_Authoress says: thank you xD
[22:47:54] The_Crazy_Authoress says: I've been weird all day today
[22:48:20] The_Crazy_Authoress says: I suspect it's Eddie Izzard
[22:49:52] The_Crazy_Authoress says: imagine you were a fish
[22:50:04] Lynx says: okay.
[22:50:08] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and you've successfuly adapted to both wet and dry seasons
[22:50:18] The_Crazy_Authoress says: when it's wet, you swim normally, when it's dry, you can walk on land
[22:50:26] Lynx says: okay.
[22:50:27] The_Crazy_Authoress says: so you think, you're doing pretty well
[22:51:10] The_Crazy_Authoress says: one day you're swimming along as usual, then there comes a random electric shock and you pass out
[22:51:27] The_Crazy_Authoress says: then when you wake up, there's a thing poking out of your back that you can't remove, and it hurts when you try to get it out
[22:51:37] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and there's a large gash on your belly with a wire poking out of it
[22:51:44] Ashley Scripter says: I think maybe I should go back and figure out how this conversation started before I try to understand it from here
[22:51:46] The_Crazy_Authoress says: on a scale of 1-10, how violated would you feel?
[22:51:52] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and yes, that would be a good idea
[22:52:15] Lynx says: Wait what.
[22:52:27] Lynx says: I was following you until the gash on the belly
[22:53:09] The_Crazy_Authoress says: well, if you were that fish, how violated would you feel?
[22:53:37] Lynx says: 10.
But explain?
[22:53:44] The_Crazy_Authoress says: I'm watching a documentary on snakeheads
[22:53:52] The_Crazy_Authoress says: or "fishzilla", as the narrator insists
[22:54:25] The_Crazy_Authoress says: this could be the story behind all those alleged alien abductions, you know
[22:54:51] The_Crazy_Authoress says: maybe us humans are just a part of some huge celestial pond or something
[22:55:12] Lynx says: oooh don't get philosophical on me
[22:55:12] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and they capture some of us in order to tag us and monitor how our kind is progressing
[22:55:25] The_Crazy_Authoress says: don't derail my thought process now xD
[22:55:50] The_Crazy_Authoress says: maybe the fish are met with the same kind of skepticism underwater
[22:55:58] Lynx says: Alright, but don't think I'm going to encourage it, either
[22:56:02] The_Crazy_Authoress says: "No, I swear it's true!! Some giant cut me open and put this thing on me!!"
[22:56:13] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and the other fish are like "noooo you lie. you're crazy man! that's crazy talk!"
[22:56:24] The_Crazy_Authoress says: but of course the fish isn't lying
[22:56:37] The_Crazy_Authoress says: he has however, totally misinterpreted the motives behind the tagging
[22:56:53] The_Crazy_Authoress says: think there's some kind of doomsday organization among fishes?
[22:57:21] The_Crazy_Authoress says: or maybe some fishes regularly swim near riverbanks, holding signs "Welcome humans"
[22:57:26] The_Crazy_Authoress says: and then they get caught
[22:57:59] Lynx says: :P
[22:58:02] The_Crazy_Authoress says: hehe fish press conferences, the fish president giving another impassionate speech in the fish white house
[22:58:38] The_Crazy_Authoress says: I honestly don't know what's up with my head today
[22:58:47] The_Crazy_Authoress says: I do know that i'm posting this in my blog
[22:59:17] Lynx says: :D

And When The Cheeks Hurt

I read, I wrote, I conquered.

It takes 17/22/10/4 muscles to smile (no one's really sure), and it hurts when you overdo it. xD

But I can't help it. I'm too happy. I just have to smile!! I can't stop!!

Oh my Elessar.

Main reason for this happiness? Well, it's the same one as in the Smile Explosion post. Multiplied by two. I ___ a ___. Twice. I can't give you any more details because of that aforementioned mantra, but heh - enjoy this. This is the closest thing to a clue you'll ever get from me!

Now that I have sufficiently calmed down, I can start telling the other part of this story.

*squeee* *cough*

So in my school, there's this traditional closing christmas "celebration" of sorts. Not really a celebration, more like a bunch of students performing - dancing, singing, whatever. And every year, there's a writing contest. Last year, I regretted so bitterly that I did not join, so I vowed that this year, things would change. So I joined the contest. I had previously written a horror story in 10th grade, so I took that, edited, and entered the competition.

And I won. 2nd place. Mwahahahaha. Prize: A Norli (bookstore) gift card worth 300 NOK.

Oh yes, mommy is indeed very pleased.

Particularly because later on, I was smothered with hugs from people I love. And also received various congratulatory remarks. :D

Now I must go book shopping tomorrow! Ha!

Closing quote: Remarks from the jury (translated, of course, so some parts don't really make any sense xD)

About the text that won 2nd place, the jury observes:
This is a mystery story that grows stronger with every sentence. The story is very well thought-through and has several different plans of action. It switches between dream and reality, and events and details are given increased importance in the course of the story until the climax towards the end. The reader is nevertheless left with some unanswered questions, as it should be after reading a good story. Conscious language control and use of literary tools also notes that this is a writer who masters the genre well.

A Smile Explosion

I am sitting here in the library. It's cold, my pants are wet, I think I have a fever, my arms feel dead because they've been battered and bruised by an evil volleyball.

And yet a goofy smile graces my features.

Happy, happy day. One of the, if not THE happiest day in my life.

ZOMEH! I cannot believe that really happened!!!!!!

(Post might be updated when I get home and have had the time to think. Or maybe not.)

The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.
- Allan K Chalmers

[UPDATE:

I'm home now. Have been for nearly 5 hours now. I think I may come down with a cold, so I'm sipping tea with lemon to make it go away. Tea... what would we do without it? I'm also taking paracetamol - both for the cold symptoms, and for me aching body - courtesy of volleyball. There's a reason for my hatred of that sport, really.

A smile appears on me face every bloody five minutes. There it goes again. *squeeeeeee*

I go super-sonic when I squee xD. I asked my friend if she wanted to hear me go super-sonic, she said no. Wise choice.

I would love to post a song to express my emotions, because in keeping with my hardcore "leave-no-evidence-behind" mantra, I can't really bring myself to write what actually happened in here...

Sadly, I have discovered that I really DON'T have any happy songs in my iTunes... Even the catchy, upbeat ones bear an underlying message of melancholia. Suits my personality well, I guess. A fine example is the song currently playing on repeat in me head - 'Amazing', by High and Mighty Color (J-Pop/-Rock band). It's so bubbly and happy and upbeat... then I checked the translation, and it turns out that the song's really about someone leaving for some "neo universe", and the person left behind says "I'm not sad, because I know you'll be reborn." Whatever that means.

Oh wait, I have happy songs. 'Everytime We Touch' by Cascada is happy, is it not? And I also have 'I Kissed A Girl' by Kate Perry, although in this case I did not kiss, and it was not a girl. I merely ____ a _____. Damn the mantra!

*squeeeeeeeeeeee*

What else do I have? On a completely unrelated note, I am listening to Mock The Week. Recommended by a friend, best show recommendation I've ever listened to. Frankie Boyle has won my heart, he really has. He's not helping with my swearing problem though. I think I've said "f*ck" a hundred times today. I shit you not.

'Monster' by The Automatics? That's happy too...
Hehe... and some various crimps from The Mighty Boosh xD
'We Will Rock You', Queen?

Nah. Screw this.

Enjoy:

Let it be known...

I love avocados.

They made my morning. They made my morning incredibly fantastic.

So I thank you, tiny purple fruits, from the bottom of my heart.

I thank you now, before you become transformed to nourishment my body needs.

I love being in love

Yes We Can!

And a collective shiver ran up the whole world's spine...

A shiver of glee; of glorious anticipation.

A shiver brought on by the knowledge that something historic has taken place.

A shiver brought on by the collective shattering of several invisible walls.

The people of the United States have spoken, and oh, they have done it well.

But I wouldn't know, because I chose to sleep, instead of staying up to keep vigil over the election results.

It was a wonderful thing that greeted my sleepy eyes this morning though.

"Barack Obama: President-Elect"

[...] It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy who left their homes and their families for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep.
[...]
This is our time, to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can't, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.

Three Haikus

I am incredibly happy. For several reasons.

Well, several reasons stemming from ONE reason.

Rather than go on a really long spiel, I shall express myself with three haikus...

Like a flower
Trapped in a long desert draught
The rains came

The sun has risen
Four days of utter darkness
Has come to an end

The sky is peaceful
For even the heavens know
The night is over

Yes, I am very happy. :)

Happiness

Oh yes!

I feel like dancing~!!

Doo dee doo!!

This calls for a happy song! :D

Too bad I can't think of any happy song at the moment xD

But yeah.

Special thanks to Elessar. Hail Aragorn!!

And Buddha.

[UPDATE: Song and Quote

I don't really have bubbly-happy songs in my collection. I'm an angsty kind of person, you see.

But here's a song that always makes me want to dance.

It's not really a *happy* song... but it's the best I have! xD

And quote... hmm... quote...]

[Update 2: I read the quote again, and I just could not resist...]

All Is Well

January 7, 2008
Mood: Completely and utterly blissful

Some days, everything just seems to go right.

Today was just fantastic. :D

Despite my worries last night, I was able to wake up at 6 am. True, I suddenly awakened at 3 am for unknown reasons, but maybe it was just my Circadian rhythm acting up, after being thoroughly screwed over by Christmas break. xD

So yeah. It was a good start, then I made this [stupid] decision to walk to school even with the 8 inches of snow piled up all around me. A daunting task, and a really hare-brained one too.

But it's all good. Something else made up for it. :) Or rather, someone.

Then our science teacher gave us our test results. I got an A! Awesome!

But the clincher for this wonderful day...

I got a card from a friend, which is awesome enough. However, I also got a present from another friend. It was a gift for moi; a gift which caused me to run around the house, bouncing and squeeing whilst clutching her letter.

It pwned.

I love her lots. :D

And I'm never taking this wristband off.
