Wants To Post, Here's The Post

I strongly suspect that this post is going to be as chaotic as my mind...

I've fallen in love with another Japanese band. Aqua Timez. Love, love, LOVE their songs. Shame I haven't been able to find a store that has their CDs... maybe I should use Amazon next time.

My biorhythm chart tells me that I'll be feeling blue until next week. It's a damn shame, really. I want to be happy on my birthday... But screw that.

Fanfics! Ahh, fanfiction... There are some insanely good ones, but there are also some that exist on the other side of the scale. Good fanfiction can make readers doubt which things are canon. I've come across fanfiction stories written sooo well that for a moment I wasn't sure what actually happened (and didn't happen) in the original storyline.

But of course, only a select few have the ability to write such convincing stories. The other writers... they try. They genuinely try. Some of them manage to spew out somewhat forgivable finished products. Others... fail. Spectacularly.

You might be failing spectacularly as a fanfic writer if:
  • Your story has more grammatical/spelling errors than words.
  • You have chosen a format which makes your story unreadable. Toggle case should not be used... EVER. And please, for the love of everything that is sacred in Geekdom, use paragraphs! Nothing scares readers away faster than seeing a HUMONGOUS, undivided block of text.
  • Your plotline is shite. This specifically refers to the overused 'character falls in love with OC/other character and they confess their feelings in the most OOC way possible.' Speaking of which...
  • The characters are out of character. I admit, sometimes people may do OOC things in the name of love or competition, and sometimes that makes for a good plot device. But keep it real, people! This is believable: the shy character dances/sings in public to win someone's heart. This is NOT believable: the tight-lipped, stoic character spews out paragraph after paragraph of cheesy, romantic confessions. Hiei will never recite Shakespeare, and House will never make love to Cameron on a bed of roses. (Or maybe he will...)
  • Your OC (own character) is a Mary Sue (or Gary Stu, if you're male). OCs are fine. But when I read stories with Mary Sues... the typical ones who have unbelievable skills/powers, who dominate the entire storyline, who push the actual characters out of the picture... I only have seven words for the author: I will stab you in the face! Satire/parody fics are exempt from this rule. Maybe this is the root of my hatred for all things Disney...
  • Your story contains impossible crossovers. CharmedxHP I can accept, but HPxNaruto makes me want to slap you.
  • You interrupt the story with author's notes (A/N). Use footnotes.
  • You end chapters with faux dialogue between you and the characters. Really, using them to ask for reviews is just sad.
  • Your story has over 40 chapters. I came across a fanfic with --I kid you not-- 95 chapters. Even the LoTR books never went over 30 chapters! (Combined is a different story. But Fellowship had 22 chappies, Two Towers had 24, and Return of The King had 20) And no, I did not read the fanfic.
And I've ran out of criticisms. Rest now, shitty fanfic writers, but I'll be back with more later.

Having said that...

I recently found the only copy of my first ever proper fanfic. The old feelings of pride resurfaced... until I read the thing again. Imagine my horror when I realized that the story --*my story* that I had once been so proud of-- had OOC characters, an incredibly shite and implausible plotline, and a Mary Sue. I felt the urge to destroy the pages, to destroy the evidence that I had penned something so bad, but I ultimately decided against it. I'm keeping it instead... as a reminder of how I should NOT write my future stories.

I do still write crappy fanfiction from time to time. But you know the difference between me and the other shitty writers?

I don't publish my work.

Writing is a socially acceptable form of paranoia.

I'm still bored

I'm still bored. I've got loads of things I must do, but I'm still bored. It's the worst kind of bored. Loads of stuff to finish, but I don't feel like finishing them.

I realized last night that I still had a fair amount of unhealthy anger left in me. If this anger were money, Bill Gates would weep in envy. But no, that's probably too much. Oprah then. Oprah would be envious.

Point is, I've got anger issues. At times, the rage bubbles to the surface in a flash. It nearly topples me over. And then it disappears. Well, it doesn't really disappear... it just goes away, somewhere else.

Perhaps I should put the anger to better use.

School. School.

I do NOT want to go. At least not yet. Where did my vacation go? It's a bit amusing/funny/ironic. I couldn't wait for my summer vacation to start, and when it started, I found myself sitting bored - wondering when it would end. Now I'm desperately clutching on. Hoping that somehow the hours shall be slow in their passing.

I'm tempted to insert a Gandalf quote in here. But I won't. Instead I shall go back to highlighting the important passages.

All of the things that relate to Aragorn are highlighted in green. It's helpful reference for the church.
Others are in purple.
The Sam/Frodo things are highlighted in orange. I couldn't resist.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us.

So I lied. Sue me.

Boredom + crazy ideas + crazier friends = wonderful things.
xD

I have not updated in ages, I know, and I deeply apologize. School officially ended last week, but I have been crazy busy since the 13th.

June 13 I went to Helsinki, and it was great. It was a conference about Minority Youths in Nordic Countries. Sounds deep, but it was really loads of fun. I learned a lot, met new people, and finally got to do something productive. I can't wait to go again next year.

And then it was a theater appointment, then back to school to get me grades - B average! So I did learn something! :D

And then it was off to a surprise party for a friend who's leaving. I was lamenting though, that it was the start of my summer vacation, and yet i still had to run around and do stuff. Can I escape the deadlines for once??

Then Sunday came, and George Carlin died. :(
That man was one of my heroes. He shall be sorely missed.

And so now my summer plans:
I plan on doing NOTHING!

It's already been crazy this past year. Deadlines! Reports! Exams! Mock exams! Tests! Homework! Appointments! BLAH!

I think I'd just like to do nothing, for a change. After all, that's what a vacation is supposed to be like.

Or maybe I'm just weird.

Wasting Time

Mood: bored

I just finished a math test, and am sitting right outside the classroom. The hallway is silent. If it weren't for the lights, I'd say it was kinda spooky. I enjoy watching the people in my math class go out one by one. I don't know why.

I have 20 minutes to spare until the break. So I guess I should say I have 35 minutes before gym class.

I am bored.

Ah, I just noticed, it's le Valentines Day. Thankfully they haven't made such a big deal of it here at school. In my old school of elementary days, we had to make blasted paper cut-outs of the diapered angel dude floating around shooting people with his potent arrows.

I am seriously bored.

I don't want to have gym today. But hey, I *never* want to have gym. But I have to, sadly.

Oh wow! One more application request on Facebook and I can finally use the "ignore all" button again! Hurrah! This is the one time that I actually want someone to send me an app. request. xD

We saw a movie today in English class - "Rabbit-Proof Fence". It was about 3 Australian Aboriginal children who were forcibly taken from their mothers and brought to one of them settlements.

Allow me to say now that I absolutely, relentlessly, irrevocably HATE our ancestors.

Or wait.

I like the Greeks. Love them to death (no pun..). I like the Romans too. And the Egyptians. Fine then! So I don't hate them. But I disapprove strongly of their utter ignorance.

I'm learning more and more of the atrocities committed by the white people in the past. Of course rage bubbles over me, and then it quickly turns into despair. What can I do? Those people are already dead. The people they treated wrongly are also dead. Descendants from both parts only have a vague idea of the injustices their forefathers dealt with. What else is there to do but move on and ensure that the evils of the past will not happen again.

There are noises from the other room. Are people arguing?

I'm eavesdropping.

But it sounds more like enthusiastic class environment. Bahh...

What was I saying now?

Oh. That. Well yeah, really. I'm done.

10 minutes until break. I better find some other place to sit, otherwise I'll be trampled alive!!

I better go. People are starting to pour out into the hallway. I must look like a tramp sitting here... er, a tramp-beggar, not a tramp in the Irish sort of way.

Ciao.

And do not kill the flowers!! Leave them be and keep the chocolates for yourself!
